Within 24 hours of your arrest on felony charges, you will be brought before the 1st appearance judge or magistrate for the County in which you were arrested. 1st Appearance Court runs 7 days a week, so even if you are arrested on a Friday, you'll be able to see a judge to determine your bond amount.
More serious charges, including dangerous felonies and felonies that are punishable by life-in-prison, are not eligible for bond at 1st Appearance Court. Additionally, Violations of Probation are not eligible for bond at 1st appearance.
After your arrest, the officers will forward their reports (probable cause affidavit) to the State Attorney's Office, and the prosecutors will then determine what charges, if any, will be filed against you.
